What makes me happy? What are my dreams? What are my fears? Answering these questions means reflecting on one’s own life, and at the same time on how we view the world. It means reflecting on the paths we left behind and the ones yet to come.
Ten remarkable women in Ghana share their answers with us. We meet Nana Balaki – Queen Mother of Ada and feminist from the first – and Stella, who dances in a strip club to provide a better life for her son. We get to know Katty, who at 20 years old has fulfilled her childhood dream and founded a school, and Abby, a young mother contemplating her role in society. Belinda, Vanessa, and Nancy, as well as Gifty, Patience, and Halima, also share their stories about finding their place in the world; stories of pain, love, and self-assertion.
These deeply personal portraits remind us of the variety of shapes life takes. Despite all the differences, we catch glimpses of ourselves in the mirror of others and get an impression of what it means to be human. Through these insights, we are encouraged and inspired to ask ourselves the deeper question. What is life to me?
